Hooping.org is the online hub for the worldwide hooping community, the one-stop resource for all things revolving around the hula hoop.
Hooping.org was founded on May 4, 2003 shortly after three bloggers – Ariel Meadow Stallings,Philo Hagen and Vera Fleischer – spent hours hooping together at a party. Frustrated by a lack of info about hooping on the web, Philo decided to start Hooping.org and invited his friends to join him. Their goal – to spread the joy of hooping around the globe and build a worldwide hoop community.
Since that time Hooping.org has been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, on National Public Radio, as well as countless other publications and programs. What began as a simple blog about hooping has in fact evolved into a global community. Our groups and forums are not only a great place for education and idea exchange, they’re a great place for finding hoopers and classes near you. And even though the others moved on to focus on other creative pursuits, Philo has remained solely at the helm since March 2007. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Got something you’d like to share on Hooping.org? We’d love to hear about it! Hooping.org welcomes your videos, tutorials, photos, news stories and more. As the most recognized and respected hooping website with twenty thousand visitors weekly and more than 70,000 hits, contributing won’t just give yourself, and your website if you have one, considerable exposure, you’ll also get that warm and fuzzy feeling that comes from participating in your community! Before you send it in though, here are some guidelines:
Photos: If you’re nominating a photo please let us know where it was taken and who the photographer was. If it was a professional photographer, please obtain permission from the photographer prior to sharing the photo with Hooping.org. If you don’t have permission, we can’t publish it. Most photographers would like to see their work get attention, so ask ‘em. If we use your photo we also love to link everyone involved, so be sure to include any web links for whoever is in the photo and the photographer. If you have a Hooping.org account please include your username.
Videos and Tutorials: If you’d like to nominate a video or tutorial please note that Hooping.org does not host video files. Please upload the video to a service like YouTube or Vimeo first, and then send us the link. We also invite you to share any information about your project that you think would be of interest to viewers, where it was filmed, who all is in it, etc. If there’s a song playing we’d love to know who it is by and what it is called. We also love to link everyone involved so please include your web links and Hooping.org usernames.
News Items: Were you written up in the press or did you stumble upon a hooping story in the news? Please send us the link to the story. We love it when you let the world know about hooping. If you’ve only seen the piece in print and are not sure if your article is online, please tell us the name of the publication and date and we can see about tracking it down.
Original Content: Have you written something that you’d like to share with the hooping community? We welcome your submissions. If your submission is chosen for publication it will include your byline.
So basically the rule of thumb is send it in! We’d love to see it, although obviously everything that is submitted can’t be published, and it may even wind up being published in a less than timely fashion. While Hooping.org does our best to let you know our reasoning if we find it necessary to say no, which isn’t always possible, or hold on to something for publication at a later day (perhaps for a special theme week, or maybe we just ran something far too similar) we want you to know that your submissions are always incredibly valued and deeply appreciated.
If you have specific questions about Hooping.org or hooping in general you are more than welcome to contact us at the email address below. Welcome to Hooping.org and we hope you come back often – new content is added daily.
